According to its manufacturer, the Sig Sauer P226 Pistol is "the pistol that set the standard by which all other combat handguns are measured." While a bit oversized to suit all self-defense purposes, the Sig P226 is an extremely reliable weapon that is most commonly used for military and law enforcement purposes. However, it is also a popular choice among civilian consumers despite its bulk.
Manufacturer supplies two, ten-round double-stack magazines standard with the P226. 12 and 20-round magazines can also be purchased on the secondary market.
Pictured here is a .40 S&W SIG P226 Stainless with reverse two-tone finish. However, .40 is far from the only caliber of ammo offered. The SIG P226 is also available chambered in 9mm and .357 SIG.
For those looking to save on ammunition costs, the SIG Mosquito is essentially the same weapon, only it is manufactured for use with .22 LR ammunition.
Pros:
- Reliability - The SIG P226 is manufactured to fire up to 250,000 rounds during its lifetime. The gun rarely if ever jams regardless of the ammunition being used.
- Accuracy - The P226 is widely considered to be among the most accurate handguns on the market.
- Safety - Cam-safety built into the trigger mechanism ensures the gun won't accidentally misfire.
- Ease-of-Use - The gun is ergonomically configured, with all the controls seemingly in exactly the right place.
Cons:
- Price - If one had to find a flaw with this gun it would have to be the price. Standard models can run anywhere from $800-$1200, and that's not even factoring in the cost of ammunition. However, you get what you pay for in life, and the SIG P226 pistol is certainly no exception. While it does cost a pretty penny, the quality of this particular firearm is second-to-none.
One other noteworthy detail about the SIG Sauer P226 semi-automatic pistol is that it is manufactured for use by the U.S. Navy Seals (P226 Navy) and the Department of Homeland Security (P226R HSP).
